So you might be asking how it works. It’s pretty simple, really. Built-in voice instructions will guide you in setting the day, time, weekly and weekend temperature settings – and you can do all of that before it’s mounted on the wall, should you choose. One terrific benefit is that there are multiple setting options. For example, if you want your air conditioner not to run much when you are at work during the warm summer months, you can have a weekday setting where you keep the home warm and one for weeknights and weekends to keep it cool. These are great for vacation homes, too, as you never have to worry about forgetting to turn the air or heat on/off when you leave. Can’t you see how a talking thermostat can save you money in that regard?

Obviously if you are vision-impaired, a talking thermostat can be a terrific addition to your home. But the LCD characters on the unit are oversized, so even if you are farsighted you may not even need those reading glasses. When you hit the “report” button, the talking thermostat announces the current day, time, room temperature, set point and any programming instructions. If you hit the “up/down” buttons, it will tell you the new temperature that you are setting. The “help” button is simply that and also gives you our phone number if there’s a problem.

But here’s where a talking thermostat can really save you long-term problems with your HVAC system: It also will give you a reminder to change your air filter in your AC unit. Let’s face it, everyone forgets from time to time on replacing that filter every 30 days or so, and that makes your unit work harder and less efficiently – and thus you have a higher utility bill. That won’t be an issue any longer. In addition, it will give a similar reminder if you have an air purification system. Regular service on your HVAC units is the key to making them last longer, and the talking thermostat will give you an alert when the recommended time for routine maintenance has elapsed.

If you are worried about a power outage resetting everything on your talking thermostat, it protects against that by saving all your settings. And if the battery in the unit is low, a warning is given for that too. Let’s say, however, that you have a talking thermostat at your home and you are in Florida for the winter. What happens if there’s a power outage or the battery dies while you are gone? If the temperature in your home sinks to 40 degrees, the system automatically calls for heat even if there are dead batteries. Thus you don’t have to worry about any potential damage to pipes, your plants dying or other problems a freeze will cause.
